Infrascreen's innovative nano-material increases energy efficiency of agricultural greenhouses.

>>venture>> winner Infrascreen has developed the first selective screen for greenhouses that allows for growing organic vegetables more efficiently.

Could you explain what your startup does in a few sentences?

High-tech greenhouses are great tools for producing healthy and sustainable fruits and vegetables, both organically and conventionally. To work properly, they require precise climate control, especially to keep the heat in winter. By drastically improving their energy efficiency, the smart material we have developed using nano-photonics makes them both more profitable and more sustainable. Down the road, consumers can eat affordable, healthy, pesticide-free and sustainable fruits and vegetables.

What is something you wish you knew when you started putting together your business?

The absolute importance of having (a) great and complementary co-founder(s). As most people are not a one-man band, you need a complementary team at the beginning. But should you choose unwittingly, it will kill you.

Hopefully, in that prospect, I was extremely lucky.

What plans do you have for your startup in the next several months?

We plan to sell our first units in the course of the next year. That's challenging but everything is fitting together very nicely so far.

What's something you've had to deal with as an entrepreneur that you never expected to?

We have been extremely well supported in our journey so far, from public funding to great mentors. I'm very impressed by the commitment of those supporting us and the quality of this support. I was expecting far less and it truly makes a difference.

What are you most excited about with regards to your project?

It's both very pragmatic, very real, and yet it has the potential to contribute to changing the world
